Although rare, asymmetry of the breasts is a devastating cosmetic problem for some young women. During puberty, one breast develops out of sync with the other.
Surgery is recommended when the breast is a cup size or more different than the other, but only after puberty is complete, when no further development is expected.
Raj P. Chowdary, M.D. has been practicing plastic surgery in the Lehigh Valley for over 25 years, performing thousands of procedures with outstanding results.
The surgical procedure will depend on several factors, including how you want to balance the breasts. You may choose to augment (enlarge) the smaller breast to look like the larger one, or reduce the size of the larger breast to match the smaller one. After the breast surgery, you will wear a special surgical bra to minimize swelling and support the breasts. Most women avoid work and strenuous activity for 1-2 weeks after the procedure.
